Wanduramba is a remote town located on the outskirts of the world-renowned Sinharaja Rainforest. It falls within the administrative district of Galle, a historic city whose roots trace back to the Dutch era in the 18th century. The unique 10-acre Malmorakanda property, situated near Wanduramba, dedicates 3.5 acres to tea cultivation. Established in 2017 by young engineer-turned-entrepreneur Kalana Jayasekara, who is deeply passionate about tea cultivation, the Malmorakanda Tea Estate has been free from herbicides, chemical fertilizers, and insecticides since 2018. This commitment has earned the estate international organic certification.

We pride ourselves on sourcing all our raw tea exclusively from our estate, ensuring the highest quality and freshness. This direct sourcing allows us to control every aspect of the tea’s journey, from cultivation to processing, guaranteeing a superior product.
Our tea leaves are hand-plucked with precision, following the “two leaves and a bud” method. This meticulous selection ensures that only the finest and most delicate leaves are chosen, contributing to the nuanced flavors and aromas of our teas.
After plucking, the light raw leaves undergo a natural withering process, exposed to gentle winds that allow them to lose moisture gradually. This natural withering enhances the tea’s complexity and character, setting the foundation for exceptional flavor development.
Once withered, the tea leaves are hygienically ground by hand, preserving their integrity and freshness. This careful rolling process ensures that the teas maintain their unique qualities, from texture to taste, creating a harmonious tea experience
The ground tea leaves are then fermented under controlled conditions until they achieve the desired color and flavor profile. This fermentation stage is critical for enhancing the tea’s depth and richness, imparting distinctive notes that delight the palate.
Finally, the properly fermented tea leaves undergo hot air drying, a precise method that preserves the tea’s flavor, aroma, and nutritional properties. This drying process ensures that each cup of Malmorakanda tea delivers a consistent and satisfying experience, capturing the essence of our estate’s finest teas.
